Part I of four
Iwisdom for living
Solomon opens up Proverbs with power words. Read chapter one, verse 22: four chairs.
-
The simple
Naïve people who believe everything, because they don’t have convictions about anything.
“The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.”
Proverbs 14:15 -
The scorner
Can’t understand God’s truth because they are not humble.
“A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.”
Proverbs 14:6 -
The fool
Thinks that their sin is “really living,” and constantly returns to it.
“As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.”
Proverbs 26:11 -
The wise
They associate with wise people, flee from sin, discipline their speech and win souls.
“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”
Proverbs 13:20
Which chair will we sit in?
Part II
IIa wise builder
We’re all building our lives on a foundation.
- What foundation are we building on?
- Truth or lies, wisdom or folly?
“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.”
Matthew 7:24–25
“What are we building our lives on today? Let it be Jesus Christ: the chief cornerstone!”
Part III
IIIwise unto salvation
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105
“It doesn’t matter how much we know in this life if we are lost! Wisdom unto salvation is a matter of life and death!”
“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
2 Timothy 3:15
“…a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.”
2 Peter 1:19
Part IV
IVis there any sign of life?
We’re either growing or dying!
“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”
Hebrews 5:14 (NIV)
